PICS Nepal has accomplished a groundbreaking effort to combat mental health issues faced by far too many Nepalese. As psychotherapy is virtually a new phenomenon in Nepal, this agency was started by a group of exceptional new counselors from the first cohort of students to ever graduate with a Master’s degree in psychological counseling. I am honored to be a member of the board commissioned to oversee and support the organization of PICS Nepal. As a psychotherapist myself, as well as a researcher who has studied the issue of trauma in Nepal, I am aware of how significant this agency is in establishing a safe place for people to access mental health services from competent, professional counselors. I am grateful to PICS Nepal for the work they do to meet the mental health needs of the community, to train psychosocial counselors, and to advocate for improved mental health services throughout Nepal.
